Trezor.io/Start® — Begin Your Crypto Device®

This guide walks you through everything you need to safely set up and start using your Trezor hardware wallet with Trezor Suite — step‑by‑step, security first.

Quick overview

Trezor is a purpose‑built hardware wallet that keeps your private keys offline and under your control. Use this page to prepare, set up, and verify your device so you can begin sending, receiving and managing crypto securely.

Get started in 6 easy steps

  1. Unbox & inspect: Ensure the packaging is intact and tamper seals (if present) are unbroken.
  2. Download Trezor Suite: Click Download Trezor Suite and install on your desktop (Windows / macOS / Linux) or use the web app when instructed.
  3. Connect your device: Use the included USB cable to connect your Trezor to the computer.
  4. Create a new wallet: Follow the on‑screen setup in Trezor Suite. Choose a strong device PIN when prompted.
  5. Write down your recovery seed: Use the provided recovery card to write down the 12/24‑word seed exactly. Store it offline and never photograph or store digitally.
  6. Verify & finish: Trezor will ask you to confirm a few words from your seed. Verify, finalize setup, and add accounts.

Tip: Never share your recovery seed — Trezor support will never ask for it.

Firmware and software are open for independent review and community audits.

Multi‑coin

How Trezor protects your crypto

At its core, Trezor keeps your private keys isolated inside the hardware device. When you sign a transaction, the signing occurs on the device itself — the computer only sees the signed transaction, not your keys. Combined with verification screens on the device and a PIN layer, this model gives you layered protection against online attacks.

Device PIN

A locally stored PIN prevents attackers who obtain your device from using it without the code. Choose a PIN length and pattern you can remember but others cannot guess.

Recovery seed

The recovery seed is a master backup of your wallet. If your device is lost or damaged, the seed allows you to restore access on a new device. Treat the seed like cash — offline and guarded.

Frequently asked questions

Can I restore my Trezor on a different device?

Yes. Use the recovery seed to restore your wallet on any compatible device or on Trezor Suite when prompted.

What if I lose my recovery seed?

If you lose the seed and the device is damaged or lost, you will not be able to recover your funds. Consider creating secure backups in multiple locations.

Is Trezor safe for large holdings?

Many users trust hardware wallets for long‑term, large holdings due to the offline storage of private keys. For extremely large amounts consider additional safety strategies such as multi‑signature setups and geographic separation of backups.
